Abuja, Nigeria, May 6, 2026

The House of Representatives of Nigeria has adopted the report of its Committee on Police Affairs on the Nigerian Police Trust Fund (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

The proposed legislation seeks to reform the existing 2019 framework by providing more sustainable funding for the Nigeria Police Force and enhancing institutional effectiveness.

Lawmakers said the bill is designed to modernise police training systems, improve officers’ welfare, and boost the operational capacity of the Force in addressing evolving security challenges across the country.

The development marks another legislative effort toward improving policing standards and supporting broader security sector reforms in Nigeria.
