Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised suspected terrorists, rescued three kidnapped victims, and recovered arms, ammunition, and other logistics during a series of security operations conducted in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

The military operations form part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry and restore peace across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the successes were recorded during fighting patrols and ambush operations carried out on June 12, 2026.
The statement disclosed that troops conducting a fighting patrol across Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa communities in Zurmi Local Government Area encountered a group of suspected terrorists in Yanbuki District.

A gun battle reportedly ensued, during which troops neutralised one suspected terrorist and recovered weapons and other items. Recovered exhibits included rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest.
Military authorities stated that as troops advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, the suspected terrorists abandoned their camp and fled before the arrival of security forces.
The troops subsequently cleared the location and destroyed the camp, which was believed to have served as an operational base for criminal activities in the area.
In a separate operation along the Shinkafi-Moriki axis, troops on routine patrol reportedly laid an ambush for another group of suspected terrorists.
During the encounter, one suspected terrorist was neutralised, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles, and assorted charms.
The military also confirmed the rescue of three kidnapped victims during the operations.
According to the statement, the rescued individuals are currently receiving necessary care and support, while efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their families.
Military authorities described the operations as part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and criminal hideouts across Zamfara State.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has been at the forefront of counter-banditry operations in the North-West, where security agencies continue to confront armed groups responsible for kidnappings, attacks on communities, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability in Zamfara State and neighbouring areas, noting that ongoing operations would continue until criminal elements are decisively neutralised.
Security officials also appealed to members of the public to support ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible intelligence that could assist security agencies in tracking and apprehending criminal elements.
The latest operation adds to a series of military offensives aimed at weakening the operational capabilities of armed groups and improving security across communities affected by banditry in the North-West region.
