Defense Headquarters Intensify Efforts For Release Of 39 Students, 7 Teachers In Oyo State

ABUJA, NIGERIA – MAY 27, 2026

The Defence Headquarters says it has intensified efforts to secure the release of the 39 students and seven teachers kidnapped in Ahoro Esinle community, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this during the monthly briefing on ongoing Armed Forces operations across the country.
Defence Correspondent Ismail Musa reports that the military high command assured Nigerians that troops and security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and restore normalcy to the affected community.
Major General Onoja said the Armed Forces have continued coordinated operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements across various theatres of operation nationwide.

According to him, within the last 30 days, troops eliminated a total of 317 terrorists, arrested 314 suspected terrorists and rescued 221 kidnapped victims during several operations conducted across the country.
He further stated that troops destroyed several criminal camps and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and other logistics used by criminal groups.

The Defence Headquarters reiterated its commitment to sustaining the ongoing offensive against insecurity and urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies with credible information that could aid operations.

The military also reassured residents in affected communities of its determination to protect lives and property while intensifying efforts to dismantle criminal networks threatening national peace and security.
