IPI Nigeria Gets a New Press Freedom Hub
Abuja, Nigeria, May 6, 2026
International Press Institute Nigeria has recorded a major milestone in the promotion of independent journalism with the inauguration of a new Press Freedom Hub in Abuja.
National President of IPI Nigeria, Musikilu Mojeed, said the development marks the first time since the 1970s that the organisation will operate from a permanent institutional base.
According to him, the new headquarters will serve as a central hub for advocacy, dialogue, and policy engagement, while also providing a secure environment for journalists and media stakeholders to advance press freedom initiatives.
Mojeed noted that the Press Freedom Hub reflects a renewed commitment to protecting journalists and promoting media independence in Nigeria and beyond amid growing concerns over threats to press freedom.
He recalled that in December 2025, IPI Nigeria listed three public officials in its “Book of Infamy” over alleged actions considered detrimental to press freedom at both national and sub-national levels.
The IPI Nigeria President also announced the relaunch and expansion of the organisation’s accountability campaign, including plans for a global advocacy drive aimed at addressing violations against journalists and media organisations.
He called on government institutions, civil society groups, media professionals, and the international community to work together toward building a free, safe, and independent media environment in Nigeria.
The inauguration formed part of activities commemorating World Press Freedom Day.
