PRESIDENT TINUBU URGES NIGERIANS TO SHOW MERCY AND COMPASSION IRRESPECTIVE OF RELIGION OR ETHNICITY

ABUJA, NIGERIA — MAY 27, 2026

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to show mercy and compassion to one another regardless of race, ethnicity, or creed as Muslims across the country and around the world celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, the Festival of Sacrifice.

In his Eid-el-Kabir message to the nation, President Tinubu extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful and thanked Almighty Allah for preserving the lives of Nigerians to witness another celebration.
The President described Eid-el-Kabir as a reminder of the enduring virtues of faith, obedience, sacrifice, selflessness, unity, and compassion as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
According to him, one of the central lessons of the festival is the need for Nigerians to demonstrate love, mercy, and compassion towards one another irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.
President Tinubu noted that Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, remains the greatest symbol of duty, obedience, and devotion to Allah.

The President stated that Nigeria is currently on a journey of reconstruction and renewal, stressing that the reforms introduced by his administration, though challenging, are necessary to build a stronger and more prosperous nation for future generations.
He expressed delight that the sacrifices and efforts made over the past three years were already yielding positive results, including a more stable economy and improved investor confidence capable of driving job creation and economic growth.

According to President Tinubu, “the walk through the dark tunnel is over, and the light is here,” expressing confidence that the reforms being implemented would continue to improve security and create greater opportunities for Nigerians.

While acknowledging the efforts of the nation’s security and intelligence agencies, including the recent elimination of a wanted ISIS leader, the President admitted that terrorists and bandits still carry out attacks in some communities.
He, however, assured Nigerians that they have neither been abandoned nor forgotten, pledging that all forces of evil would ultimately be defeated.
President Tinubu urged Muslim faithful to use the sacred occasion to pray for Nigeria, peace in communities, and wisdom for leaders at all levels.

He also called on Nigerians to pray for those involved in criminal activities to repent and abandon their evil ways or face the full weight of the law.
The President further encouraged citizens to extend love and support to the less privileged, share with neighbours, and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and unity across the country.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful Nigeria where citizens can live freely, worship without fear, and pursue their aspirations in a secure environment.
He assured Nigerians that his government would continue to invest in security, infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital development in fulfilment of the nation’s promise.

On behalf of the Federal Government, President Tinubu wished all Nigerians a peaceful, joyous, and blessed Eid-el-Kabir celebration, praying that Allah accepts the sacrifices and prayers of the faithful and continues to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Eid Mubarak and Happy Sallah,” the message concluded.
