TROOPS RESCUE 180 KIDNAPPED VICTIMS, ARREST 450 TERRORISTS; 39 SURRENDER
Abuja, Nigeria | October 5, 2025
In a significant boost to national security efforts, the Defence Headquarters has announced the rescue of 180 kidnapped victims and the arrest of 450 terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements during various military operations conducted across the country in September 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, who noted that the operations were carried out across multiple theatres, reflecting the Armed Forces’ sustained commitment to combating insecurity in all regions.
According to the statement, an additional 39 terrorists voluntarily surrendered to the Nigerian troops during the operations, signaling a continuing decline in enemy morale and capabilities.
Troops also recorded major successes in arms recovery, seizing a total of 63 weapons and 4,475 rounds of ammunition. These recoveries are expected to significantly degrade the operational capabilities of criminal groups across affected areas.
In the South-South region, troops under Operation Delta Safe intensified efforts against oil theft and illegal refining activities. During the operations, 41 illegal refining sites were destroyed, and oil theft activities valued at over ₦100 million were disrupted and foiled.
Major General Kangye reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ determination to maintain momentum in both kinetic and non-kinetic operations, urging citizens to continue providing credible information to support security agencies.
“These achievements are a result of coordinated intelligence, inter-agency collaboration, and the dedication of our troops in the field. The Armed Forces remain committed to restoring peace and stability across the country,” the statement read.
The Defence Headquarters assured Nigerians that it will continue to adopt comprehensive strategies to dismantle criminal networks and restore normalcy to troubled areas.
