NIGERIAN ARMY REPRESENTS NATION AT INTERNATIONAL MATERIAL CORROSION SYMPOSIUM IN CHINA

Shenyang, China – October 5, 2025

The Nigerian Army has once again projected the nation’s image positively on the global scientific stage, as Brigadier General Sikiru Adepoju Mohammed, Director of Logistics at the National Defence College (NDC), represented Nigeria at the 2025 International Symposium on Material Corrosion and Protection for Belt and Road Countries and the Inauguration of the International Joint Laboratory for Material Corrosion and Protection.

Held at the Northeastern University International Hotel, Shenyang, China, the high-level event was hosted by Northeastern University (NEU)—a globally recognized research institution known for its leadership in material science and industrial innovation. The symposium convened prominent researchers, academics, and industry professionals from across the Belt and Road partner countries to deliberate on advancements in corrosion science and protection technologies critical to infrastructure resilience and industrial development.

In a well-received presentation titled “Bridging Continents for Corrosion Innovation: A Global Collaboration in Action,” Brigadier General Mohammed offered an in-depth exploration of current global trends in corrosion prevention. He provided insights into the practical mitigation strategies being implemented across West African nations and discussed the unique challenges hindering widespread adoption of advanced technologies in the subregion.

Highlighting the importance of multinational cooperation, he advocated for the integration of global research outputs with local capacity-building initiatives to foster sustainable development and improve industrial durability.
During the event, Brigadier General Mohammed expressed his sincere appreciation to Northeastern University for both the invitation and the opportunity to tour its cutting-edge research facilities. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, NAM, whose approval of the participation underscores the Nigerian Army’s strong commitment to professional development, academic partnerships, and technological advancement.
The Nigerian Army’s involvement in this prestigious symposium exemplifies its strategic focus on strengthening global partnerships and enhancing national capabilities through knowledge exchange and innovation. By engaging in forums such as these, the Army continues to drive institutional competence, promote research-informed defence strategies, and contribute to Nigeria’s broader development and security architecture.

This engagement marks another milestone in Nigeria’s active role on the international scientific front, reinforcing its dedication to fostering innovation, resilience, and self-reliance in defence logistics and technology.
