FAAN APPEALS FOR PATIENCE AND COOPERATION AS GO CASHLESS PROGRAMME COMMENCES
Lagos & Abuja, March 2, 2026
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has appealed to motorists and airport users for patience and cooperation as its Go Cashless Programme officially came into full operation on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
The initiative commenced at the access gates of the and the , in alignment with the Federal Government’s directive on cashless transactions across public institutions.
FAAN expressed appreciation to all motorists and airport users for their support and compliance as the new system took effect.
Traffic Build-Up at Access Gates
In a statement shared via its official X handle, FAAN acknowledged the traffic build-up experienced at the airport access gates on Sunday, March 1.
According to the Authority, despite wide publicity, notices, and repeated announcements issued ahead of the commencement date, a significant number of motorists opted to register for their Go Cashless cards at the gates on the same day the programme began. This unexpected surge in on-the-spot registrations created pressure on toll lanes and resulted in temporary gridlock at both airports.
FAAN noted that the situation, though challenging, was not unforeseen during the early phase of implementation of a major transition of this scale.
Measures to Ease Congestion
The Authority stated that it remains deeply empathetic to the inconvenience experienced by motorists and other airport users.
To address the situation and prevent a recurrence, FAAN has:
Deployed additional personnel to the access gates
Increased registration points to fast-track first-time card issuance
Enhanced on-ground coordination to improve traffic flow
These measures, FAAN explained, are aimed at stabilising operations and ensuring smoother access into the airports in the coming days.
Appeal for Cooperation
FAAN therefore appealed to all motorists for continued patience, understanding, and cooperation as the system is streamlined.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring that the Go Cashless Programme ultimately enhances efficiency, transparency, and convenience at Nigeria’s international gateways.
