Improve Staff Welfare: FG Launches Employees Compensation Scheme

Abuja, Nigeria , April 23, 2026

The Federal Government has officially launched the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) as part of efforts to enhance staff welfare, improve workplace safety, and boost productivity across the Federal Civil Service.

Speaking during the commissioning of the ECS Help Desk in Abuja, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, described the initiative as a critical intervention designed to provide timely compensation and support to civil servants affected by work-related injuries, occupational diseases, disabilities, or death.

She emphasized that the ECS complements existing welfare programmes, including the Group Life Assurance Scheme, while broadening the scope of protection available to employees and their families. According to her, the scheme reflects the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to safeguarding the well-being, dignity, and overall welfare of public servants.

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Mr. Oluwaseyi Mayomi Faleye, described the ECS as a significant milestone in institutionalising structured care and protection for civil servants. He noted that the scheme is supported by a transparent, payroll-driven system that ensures accountability and efficiency.

Faleye further explained that the newly established ECS Help Desk will serve as a central platform for providing information, processing claims, and receiving feedback, thereby enhancing service delivery and ensuring that beneficiaries receive prompt support.

As part of the implementation framework, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF). The agreement is expected to strengthen collaboration and ensure the effective rollout and sustainability of the scheme.

The launch of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme marks a major step forward in the Federal Government’s efforts to create a safer, more supportive, and responsive working environment for civil servants nationwide.
