Minister of Power Resigns to Join Oyo Governorship Race

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has tendered his resignation from the Federal Executive Council to pursue his ambition in the Oyo State governorship race.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, the decision to step down was to enable the Minister fully engage in the political process ahead of the forthcoming elections in Oyo State.
The statement further disclosed that Adelabu, in his resignation, proposed the establishment of a coordinating Minister of Energy to drive integrated reforms across Nigeria’s power, gas, and related sectors. The proposal is aimed at enhancing synergy and improving efficiency in the management of the country’s energy resources.
The former Minister formally submitted his resignation letter to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, in line with established procedures.
Adelabu also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the nation, noting that his time in office provided a platform to contribute to ongoing reforms in the power sector.
During his tenure, efforts were directed at addressing challenges in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as improving policy coordination within the broader energy space.
His resignation marks a transition from public service at the federal level to active participation in state politics, as he seeks to contest for the governorship position in Oyo State.
