DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS INAUGURATES GENERAL COURT MARTIAL TO TRY 36 SERVING PERSONNEL OVER BREACH OF NATIONAL SECURITY

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has inaugurated a General Court Martial to try 36 serving military personnel over alleged acts of mutiny aimed at overthrowing the government.

The inauguration, which took place on Friday, April 24, 2026, follows an earlier statement issued by the DHQ on January 26, 2026, addressing the matter. The move represents a decisive step toward reinforcing discipline, accountability, and the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding national integrity and constitutional authority.

According to the DHQ, the proceedings of the court martial will be conducted with the highest standards of fairness and impartiality. It assured that due process will be strictly observed throughout the trial, ensuring that justice is delivered without fear or favour.

“All cases will be addressed within the extant legal frameworks of the military justice system,” the statement emphasized, adding that the rights of all personnel involved will be respected and upheld in line with the principles of fair hearing.

The Defence Headquarters reiterated its resolve to maintain professionalism, discipline, and adherence to the rule of law within the Armed Forces, while ensuring that any breach of national security is dealt with decisively.
