VICE PRESIDENT SHETTIMA CALLS FOR PEACEFUL POLITICAL ACTIVITIES IN APC

ABUJA, NIGERIA — APRIL 30, 2026

The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, has called on political actors within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to maintain peace, discipline, and unity as political activities intensify ahead of future electoral engagements.

In a statement personally signed by him, Shettima cautioned party members against what he described as attempts to “pull down the roof” of the party amid growing political consultations and internal engagements.

He noted that the current political season reflects the vibrancy of democracy, where consultations have begun, aspirants are making calls, elders are receiving visitors, and supporters are actively engaging delegates.

According to him, the development is evidence that democracy remains alive, with power still subject to negotiation, persuasion, and legitimate competition.

Shettima, however, warned that every political season comes with the temptation to misinterpret disagreement as betrayal, competition as enmity, and preference as exclusion, urging party members to remain guided by restraint and maturity.

Describing the APC as a “political household,” he stressed that while members may have different ambitions, loyalties, and calculations, democracy was designed to civilise ambition rather than eliminate it.

“Democracy was never designed to abolish ambition, but to civilise it,” he said, adding that members must learn to compete without destroying one another and disagree without resorting to personal attacks.

The Vice President further urged party stakeholders to resist manipulation by media narratives, mischief-makers, vested interests, and individuals who profit from division within the party.

He called for unity of purpose, emphasizing that internal disagreements should not be allowed to weaken the collective strength of the APC as a governing political platform.
