LASPA REAFFIRMS EXCLUSIVE MANDATE ON PARKING MANAGEMENT IN LAGOS STATE

LAGOS, NIGERIA — APRIL 30, 2026

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has reaffirmed its statutory mandate as the sole agency responsible for the regulation and management of all forms of parking within Lagos State.

The General Manager of LASPA, Adebisi Adelabu, made this known while addressing recent developments involving a purported jurisdictional claim over parking management by an alleged local government official.

She described a recent communication reportedly issued by a council parking manager as misleading, invalid, and a misrepresentation of the legal framework governing parking operations in Lagos State, noting that the document was not issued on official letterhead.

Adelabu emphasized that LASPA remains the only legally empowered authority to regulate parking across the state, in line with laws passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly and supported by a coordinated framework involving all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.

She urged registered park operators and members of the public to disregard any unauthorised directives, warning that attempts to intimidate or mislead licensed operators will not be tolerated.

The LASPA boss further cautioned individuals behind such actions to desist or face appropriate legal consequences, stressing that the agency will not hesitate to enforce the law where necessary.

Reiterating LASPA’s mandate, she explained that the agency was established to streamline parking administration, improve traffic flow, and introduce efficient, technology-driven parking management systems across Lagos State.

She also clarified that claims suggesting local government authorities retain control over parking management are incorrect and constitute a violation of existing state laws.

According to her, all parking-related operations and agreements must be conducted strictly under LASPA’s regulatory framework in partnership with certified operators.

Adelabu concluded by affirming that LASPA remains committed to protecting its legal authority and ensuring order, transparency, and efficiency in parking management across Lagos State, while warning that any attempt to undermine its mandate will be met with decisive legal action.
