Abuja, Nigeria – The governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has become the subject of a legal battle following a suit filed by governorship aspirant, Abayomi Hunye, challenging the outcome of the exercise that produced Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as the party’s candidate.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1127/2027, filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, Hunye is seeking the nullification of the APC governorship primary election, alleging widespread irregularities and non-compliance with the party’s guidelines and democratic principles.
The aspirant described the primary election as fraudulent and claimed that the results announced by the party did not accurately reflect the votes cast by party members across several wards in the state.
According to court documents, Hunye specifically questioned the result recorded in his ward, where he was reportedly credited with zero votes. He argued that available video evidence showed that he and his supporters participated in the exercise and secured victory in the ward.
Hunye further alleged that the discrepancies observed in his ward were replicated in several other wards across Ogun State, insisting that the process lacked transparency and fairness.
The plaintiff is asking the court to declare the primary election invalid and set aside the outcome on the grounds that it allegedly violated the APC constitution, electoral guidelines, and established democratic procedures.
Among the reliefs sought are an order nullifying the Ogun APC governorship primary election, a declaration that the results announced by the party are invalid, and a perpetual injunction restraining the APC from forwarding the name of Senator Adeola to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its governorship candidate.
The suit also requests any additional orders the court may deem necessary in the circumstances of the case.
The legal challenge is expected to draw significant attention within Ogun State’s political landscape, as it comes at a crucial stage in preparations for the forthcoming governorship election.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the APC nor Senator Adeola had publicly responded to the allegations contained in the suit.
Political observers say the outcome of the case could have major implications for the party’s electoral strategy and preparations ahead of the Ogun State governorship election.
