Lagos Government Intensifies Enforcement Against Illegal Dumping in Apapa–Iganmu Axis

Lagos, Nigeria, May 6, 2026

The Lagos State Government has raised concern over recurring incidents of illegal waste dumping along the Apapa–Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) axis, despite recent cleanup efforts.

According to the government, operatives of the Lagos Waste Management Authority carried out a comprehensive clearing operation in the early hours of May 5, 2026. However, fresh waste deposits were observed shortly after, undermining the progress made.

The state described the situation as a major setback in its ongoing drive to maintain environmental cleanliness, stressing that sustained sanitation requires active cooperation from residents and businesses.

Authorities warned that enforcement measures across the affected axis will be intensified, noting that illegal dumping on road medians and other unauthorized locations constitutes an offence punishable under the law. Offenders, the government said, will be apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.

Residents were advised to engage only registered Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators and ensure prompt payment for waste collection services.

Reaffirming its commitment to a cleaner environment, the government urged all stakeholders to embrace proper waste disposal practices, emphasizing that environmental responsibility remains a shared civic duty.
