Troops Rescue Another Chibok Girl, Children from Terrorists’ Captivity, Neutralize Three in Ambush

In a significant development in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, Nigerian Army troops operating in the North East region have successfully rescued Lydia Simon, a Chibok girl who had been held captive by Boko Haram terrorists for several years. Lydia, who was among the abducted Chibok Secondary School girls, was rescued along with her three children during Operation Desert Sanity III, near Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. At the time of her rescue, Lydia was five months pregnant and hails from Pemi Town in Chibok.

In a separate operation, Nigerian Army troops deployed for Counter-terrorism and Counter-insurgency operations in the North Central region conducted a successful ambush on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Acting on actionable intelligence, the troops intercepted and engaged terrorists armed with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons in Tse Kpese Community, Zaki Biam Local Government Area of Benue State. During the gun battle, three terrorists were neutralized, and three AK-47 rifles along with four magazines were recovered from the scene.

The Nigerian Army reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and the nation as a whole. The Army remains resolute in taking decisive actions against terrorist activities in the region to safeguard lives and property.
