
Gov. Diri Approves Land for Federal Government Housing Scheme in Bayelsa State
In a significant move aimed at addressing the housing deficit in Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri has approved the allocation of land for the Federal Government Housing Scheme in the state. The decision underscores the governor’s commitment to prioritizing affordable housing for the people of Bayelsa during his second term in office.

The announcement came during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Oyetunde Ojo, and his management team to the Government House in Yenagoa. Governor Diri expressed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with the federal government to facilitate more housing development projects in the state.
Acknowledging President Bola Tinubu’s vision for housing development across the nation, Governor Diri assured full support from the state government to actualize this vision in Bayelsa. He emphasized the importance of considering the unique characteristics and needs of each state and region when formulating national policies, urging federal appointees to take this into account.
Governor Diri also stressed the necessity of careful planning in the construction of federal housing estates, emphasizing the importance of identifying high and low-density areas for optimal utilization of available resources. Additionally, he commended President Tinubu for the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway while urging the federal government to expedite the project, including the Calabar end.
In his remarks, FHA Managing Director Oyetunde Ojo reiterated the importance of affordable and accessible housing for all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation. He expressed the president’s commitment to providing housing solutions nationwide and solicited 100 hectares of land from the Bayelsa State government for the housing project.
Ojo commended Governor Diri for his administration’s developmental achievements, particularly in infrastructure, including road projects across the state. He praised the governor’s dedication to addressing the developmental challenges in Bayelsa and expressed confidence in the successful collaboration between the state government and the Federal Housing Authority to realize the housing objectives set forth by the federal government.
