NPF STRATEGISES ON INCLUSIVE POLICING; SENIOR WOMEN POLICE ON LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Abuja, Nigeria – October 4, 2025

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with the G.S. Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has taken a significant step toward enhancing gender inclusivity and leadership capacity within its ranks. This move comes as senior female police officers from across the country converge in Abuja for a transformative Women Leadership Development Course.

Over the past two weeks, these officers—ranging from the ranks of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP)—have been undergoing an intensive leadership training programme. The course is designed to hone their strategic thinking, boost their confidence in leadership roles, and reinforce their ability to contribute effectively to national security and law enforcement reforms.
Reporting from the venue, Francis Fom highlighted the importance of the initiative, which forms part of a broader strategy by the NPF to promote inclusive policing and professional excellence. The training emphasizes not only leadership skills but also ethical standards, emotional intelligence, and operational effectiveness—core competencies vital for modern policing in a complex and evolving security landscape.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, representing the Inspector-General, lauded the initiative and reiterated the Force’s commitment to gender equity, stating:
“This training reflects our resolve to build a police force that is not only professionally competent but also inclusive and representative of the society it serves. Empowering our female officers with the tools and knowledge for leadership is a critical investment in the future of policing in Nigeria.”

The partnership with the G.S. Foundation and UNDP underscores the international and civil society support for reforms in the Nigerian security architecture. Both organisations have consistently advocated for inclusive governance and gender mainstreaming in security institutions.
With programmes like this, the Nigeria Police Force continues to lead by example in building a resilient, inclusive, and community-focused police service—ensuring that female officers are well-positioned to lead and innovate within the Force.

The leadership course is expected to conclude with a closing ceremony later this week, where participants will share insights gained and outline their individual action plans for driving change within their respective commands.
