SIXTEEN OFFICERS TO FACE MILITARY JUSTICE FOR PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT
Abuja, Nigeria | October 5, 2025
The Armed Forces of Nigeria has announced that sixteen officers are set to face military justice following their arrest for acts of professional misconduct and breaches of service regulations.
According to a statement released by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the arrests were the result of findings from a routine military exercise that uncovered evidence of misconduct among the officers. The subsequent investigation revealed that many of the officers’ actions were influenced by frustrations related to perceived career stagnation, particularly the repeated failure to pass promotion examinations.
“The investigation established that these grievances led to behavior that contravenes the ethical and professional standards expected within the Armed Forces,” Brigadier General Gusau stated.
It was further disclosed that some of the officers had already been under military jurisdiction for various offences and were either awaiting trial or undergoing legal proceedings within the military justice system.
The statement emphasized that the Armed Forces remains committed to upholding discipline, accountability, and professionalism. Consequently, all indicted officers will undergo the appropriate military disciplinary process in line with established legal and administrative protocols.
This move, the Defence Headquarters noted, is part of ongoing efforts to preserve the integrity of the Armed Forces and ensure that all personnel, regardless of rank, adhere strictly to the values and regulations of military service.
