Responsible Media Reportage Key Enabler for Operational Successes, Says COAS at DAPR Training Seminar

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has emphasized the critical role of responsible media reportage as a fundamental enabler of operational successes within the Nigerian military. The statement was made today, Tuesday, October 7, 2025, during the official opening of the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR) combined Third and Fourth Quarters Media Training Seminar held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja.


Themed “Enhancing Responsible Media Reportage of Nigerian Army Operations in a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment for Enhanced National Security,” the seminar convened officers from the Directorate of Public Relations, Defence Correspondents, spokespersons of other security agencies, senior military officers, and communication experts. The gathering aimed to explore and strengthen effective communication strategies amid the complexities of modern military operations and the evolving digital landscape.


Representing the COAS, the Commander Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Major General Mohammed Abdullahi, underscored the indispensable nature of media in shaping public perception of military activities. He highlighted that factual and balanced reportage plays a significant role in fostering civil-military cooperation.


“The media has always been a crucial partner in disseminating accurate information about military operations, and this collaboration is essential in building trust and transparency,” Major General Abdullahi remarked.
Lieutenant General Oluyede stressed the importance of accountability, balance, and responsibility in media reporting, particularly in the context of joint operations involving multiple security agencies. He pointed out that effective communication and collaboration among these agencies are vital to achieving enhanced national security.
The seminar seeks to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the challenges of modern media environments, ensuring that Nigerian Army operations are portrayed accurately and responsibly to the public.
