The Commander, 6 Division Garrison, Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Brigadier General Abubakar Adamu Bello, has described members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as the future of Nigeria. He made this declaration during a visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam Tai, Rivers State, where he addressed corps members undergoing the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Stream I orientation course.

Addressing the corps members, Brig Gen Bello highlighted the significant role the youth play in shaping the future of the country. He called on them to embrace values such as discipline, patriotism, and integrity, stressing that these attributes are essential for nation-building.
“You are the future of Nigeria,” he said. “The nation looks up to you as the next generation of leaders, professionals, and innovators. It is therefore important that you conduct yourselves with discipline, patriotism, and a deep sense of responsibility wherever you find yourselves.”
He emphasized that the country has high expectations from its youth, describing them as beacons of hope who must rise to the task of building a better Nigeria. He encouraged the corps members to remain focused and committed to making meaningful contributions to the country during and after their service year.

Brig Gen Bello also used the opportunity to caution against the dangers of drug abuse, warning that it not only destroys individual potentials but also undermines national development. He urged the corps members to stay away from negative influences and to make choices that reflect the values of honesty, hard work, and self-discipline.

The visit was part of the Army’s ongoing efforts to support and encourage youth development initiatives across the country.
