APC Inaugurates Committee on Osun Governorship Primary

Kano, Nigeria – Thursday, 12th December 2025

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of Professor Amina Salihi Bayero as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Northwest University. Her five-year tenure is set to commence on Monday, 1st December 2025.

The appointment was formally announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the approval follows a recommendation by the University Council, which concluded a rigorous and transparent selection process to identify the most qualified candidate for the institution’s top academic and administrative office.

Governor Yusuf, who serves as the Visitor to Northwest University, commended the Chairman and members of the Governing Council for their “commitment to merit, integrity, and due process” throughout the exercise. He also called on the public to pray for Allah’s guidance and wisdom for the newly appointed Vice Chancellor as she takes on her leadership responsibilities.
Professor Amina Salihi Bayero is a renowned scholar of Analytical Chemistry and holds the distinction of being the first female PhD holder in Chemistry from Bayero University Kano. Over the years, she has served in various key academic and administrative roles, including Head of Department, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Deputy Vice Chancellor at Yusuf Maitama Sule University.

Highly respected in academic circles, Prof. Bayero is celebrated for her impactful research contributions, exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to mentoring the next generation of scientists.

Her appointment is widely expected to advance academic excellence and foster greater gender inclusion in higher education across Kano State.
