Detectives of the Igbesa Division under the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Chidi Ebere, for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at about 7:00 a.m. According to police reports, the suspect boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu, aged 36, before attacking him in an attempt to dispossess him of the bike. The attack led to a violent struggle between both men.
A witness at the scene raised an alarm, which prompted a swift response from police operatives. The victim was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor.
The suspect was immediately apprehended at the scene. Police also recovered the motorcycle and a knife believed to have been used in the attack as exhibits.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, strongly condemned the act and assured that justice would be served. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
