FEDERAL HIGH COURT REGISTRIES OPEN DURING HOLIDAYS, WEEKENDS FOR FILING OF PRE-ELECTION MATTERS

Abuja, Nigeria – May 28, 2026

The registries of the Federal High Court across all divisions nationwide will remain open during public holidays and weekends for the filing of pre-election matters.

The Chief Registrar of the court, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, saying the measure was introduced to assist litigants in meeting the limited time frame provided for filing pre-election cases.

According to him, the decision became necessary to ensure that parties involved in electoral disputes are not hindered by time constraints in seeking legal redress.

Shafa explained that the initiative is aimed at preventing situations where matters would become statute-barred due to delays in filing, thereby depriving the court of the jurisdiction to entertain such cases.

He noted that the Federal High Court remains committed to ensuring timely access to justice and effective adjudication of pre-election disputes in line with constitutional provisions and electoral laws.
