CHANGE OF OFFICIAL SIGNATORY ON THE POLICE CHARACTER CERTIFICATE

Lagos, Nigeria, April 2026

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a change in the official signatory for the Police Character Certificate, a key document issued for identification and background verification purposes.


This is to notify the general public that a new Commissioner of Police has been appointed for the Central Criminal Registry at the FCID Annex, Alagbon. The appointment is in the person of DCP Shehu Alao, psc, mnips.


In his new role, DCP Shehu Alao will serve as the Central Registrar and will be responsible for endorsing and signing all Police Character Certificates issued by the Nigeria Police Force.
The change in the official signatory takes effect from April 2026. Members of the public are advised to take note of this development, as all newly issued certificates will bear the signature of the newly appointed Commissioner. A sample reflecting the updated signatory has also been provided for reference.


This update is part of ongoing administrative adjustments aimed at maintaining efficiency and integrity in the issuance of official police documentation.
